This painting is a part of the "My Philadelphia" exhibition at Prelude Gallery in Philadelphia. The exhibition runs from December 7 -17th.
Leaving Philadelphia and moving to another country, I have missed many things but the things I have missed most are my friends. This painting is of my friend Alex. Alex born and raised in Philly, epitomizes all of the things that I love about Philly, she is street smart, tough and full of energy, excitement and life.

Racing Horse Wine Label

Tessa Guze, Neck n Neck, Wine Label 2011 

This is a painting I did for a wine label exhibition run by the (no name) Art Group, at B Square Gallery. The (no name) art group asked 50 artists each to create wine labels. Wine bottles where sold at the opening with the buyers choice of wine label. The proceeds went to raise money for Philabundance, a charity that fights hunger in the Philadelphia area. The artists had the choice to sell there paintings for personal profit or to donate the proceeds to Philabundance, I choose to do the latter and I am very excited that my piece sold!

The Art Of Giving Oct 29th

I am participating in a project run by the (no name) Art Group. This organization brings artist together to create art projects that help various people, charities and none for profit organizations.

The project I am participating in is called The Art of Giving. This project has brought 50 artists together each of whom has created the artwork for a wine label. There is going to be an opening reception on Saturday, October 29th at B Squared Gallery. At the reception all of the artwork will be exhibited and bottles of wine will be for sale with the customers choice of wine label. All of the profits from the sale of wine will be donated to Philabundance (the philadelphia areas largest hunger relief organization). The original framed artwork will also be for sale, and some of the artists (including myself) are choosing to donate that profit as well.

Here is a couple of pet paintings I completed this summer. I love painting animals and trying to covey their personality through their pose and expression. I hope you enjoy these pieces. Racing Horse Painting

This is a painting I did of a racing horse. I started with a charcoal drawing on the canvas (see below).  I used the charcoal to find the shadow shapes, the shadow shapes create a sense of volume. Once the shadow shapes are established it is than simple for me to paint on top focusing on color and paint application. Prelude Gallery

I have had work accepted by Prelude Gallery. The piece above is currently on display in their gallery on 406 South 20th St (near Pine St), Philadelphia, PA. Prelude gallery exhibits 2D work by emerging artists. Prelude Gallery is is open to the public during the week but they also celebrate 2nd Fridays. On the 2nd Friday of every month they hold a reception from 1-8 with refreshments. If your in Philly please stop by and see my piece!

Galleries in Philly

I currently have paintings up in three galleries in Philadelphia.

I am showing my work in the Kimmel center (photo above) in an exhibition called Illustrative Design. My paintings are being shown along with two other recent graduates from Moore College of Art & Design, Sarah Fritzen (sarahafritzen.blogspot.com) and Jaeger Rae Cohen. For more information about the exhibition please click here. The show will be up until October 8th 2011.

I have two pieces in the Philadelphia Sketch Club's annual Philastration Show. Philastration is a juried group exhibition for illustrators. It runs through the end of July 2011.

Jugar

Jugar is a children's book that I conceived while in India and then asked my mother Karen Guze to write for me to illustrate.

Jugar (joogar), n. The uniquely Indian concept, hard to translate, of inventively using whatever is at hand in order to get the job done.

Jugar is a young puppy living on the streets of a market in India. He is so young that all he knows is hot, dry weather—he has never seen the rainy season. He ignores the kind warnings of his friends Cow, Camel, and Monkey, and gets into trouble when it starts to rain.

He meets a young boy, and thanks to this boy’s creativity (or jugar), they both make it safely through the Monsoon.

Memory Miniatures

Fellowship Exhibition

I just applied for and won a Travel Fellowship to spend my summer in India. I will be spending a month in Jaipur teaching street children and then going to New Delhi for 7 weeks while I intern at Roli Books! Here are some photos of the artwork that accompanied my fellowship proposal.
